"No, Vinnie. Enough. You've made your bed, now sleep in it."
― The Godfather to Vinnie Gognitti

The Godfather is an Italian-American mobster, the head of New York City's Punchinello crime family, and the godfather of New York's criminal underworld at 2003.

Biography

Background

Nearly nothing is known of The Godfather's history or identity.

After the loss of Angelo Punchinello and most of his subordinates devastated the Punchinello crime family, The Godfather took over operations through unknown means. He promoted small-time player Vinnie Gognitti to an Underboss out of necessity due to their lack of resources.

Vinnie ignited (or exacerbated) a war with the Russian Mob and  Vladimir Lem, and suffered devastating losses and failures. The Godfather contacted Vinnie, accusing him of going against his wishes, and denied Vinnie's request for support, effectively cutting him out of the Punchinello family and abandoning Vinnie to his fate.

Behind the scenes

The Godfather is not seen at any point in the series. His only on-screen depiction is the voice message he leaves on Vinnie Gognitti's answering machine during Dearest of All My Friends in Max Payne 2.
