Template:QuestInfobox That Old Familiar Feeling is the final chapter of part III of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne and the final chapter of the game overall.

Background

After advancing through the Woden's mansion with Mona Sax, Max Payne is ambushed by her, knocking him to the ground with the butt of a Desert Eagle, and she holds him at gunpoint. She tries to pull the trigger, but finds that her feelings for Max prevent her from doing so. After throwing the guns away, she is shot in the back by Vladimir Lem. Just before he does the same for Max, though, Alfred Woden leaves the panic room and attempts to disarm Vladimir, but is killed in the process. Max then attacks Vlad, who sets off a series of explosions in the mansion the cause the floor to cave in underneath them, and they fall to the floor. Vladimir runs away, leaving his gun behind, not noticing that it was on the floor, covered by Max's body.

Walkthrough

The panic room

After the cinematic with Lem, open the door in front of you, you'll see a guard with a MP5. If you wish to save ammo get back inside and wait for him to come, when he does knock him down by opening the door and melee him.

( When you have the MP5 you can get back in the room you started and switch from D. Eagle to MP5 it will cause Max to jump higher It takes a few tries but if you manage to jump high enough you can get up and see Mona's and Woden's corpse.)

Move ahead you'll see a panic room falling off the ceiling get inside quickly and press the button inside. You will find some painkillers inside the panic room. After the explosions open the door and take the ammo and pills from the dead guards.

You will see a large hole in the wall where you can jump down, go to the edge then go back, a guard will appear carrying a Desert Eagle once you get a clear shot kill him (aiming for the head will help save ammo). Jump down after a few seconds a barrel bomb will fall down from the ruined part of an upper floor, also a guard with an AK-47 will be waiting, kill him if you want but mind that the bomb will blow up soon (If killed he drops the weapon and 1 painkiller).

The mansion cellars

The rest is similar; kill, pick up ammo, and repeat. If you run into Vladimir Lem, do not engage him. He is heavily armed and invincible until the moment when he is on the scaffolding. There are multiple times you may run into him: At the very beginning, when he is making a run for the door, in a room where he sets off multiple bombs and fires at you to keep you in check, and the stairs where he is shooting at you from above.

In the second room you see him in, take cover until he leaves the room, then make a run for the stairs, as the bombs will start to go off, leaving you trapped in a dead-end. Run, as fast as possible, and use shootdodge to make the jumps, if neccessary.

The stairs

This is the first active engagement between you and Lem. Lem is a combination of immortal and wimp: Although he cannot be killed (yet), he retreats upon getting shot while firing. In addition, Lem is fast and accurate. The strategy is to minimize exposure Lem, shooting him only when needed.

Take out the guards in the bedroom while staying to the left of the room beneath the scaffold. Take the painkillers. Openning the door into the stairswell will immeditately result in an explosion that takes out the stairs, so you must ride the wheelchair escalator. Shoot Lem, take cover, activate the escalator switch on the left and take cover again. (The threshold and scaffold provide good cover.) Lem will use the cabinet as cover to inch him way toward the switch on his side. Go toward your switch and be ready to hit the switch again and jump back to cover. A commando will come through the door, which you should kill and take cover again. Once the escalator reached the bottom, you must activate the switch on it; but instead of riding it, take cover and wait for Lem to leave. Kill the last commando, invoke the escalator again and ride it to the top.

The scaffolding

Select your MP5 and shoot the support parts of the platform, however don't take too long, note that Vlad is throwing explosives at you. Walk around the place and take a few seconds to shoot down the 4 supports (shooting 3 of them will make him fall) He is going to fall down but thats only the begining.

This will only get Vlad a bit closer, he will throw explosives even more often. Note: Do not waste too much time running around as the more explosives he throws the bigger the crack on the floor that will soon become a hole if you dont shoot down all the supports in time. You will see a big structure that is pointed strait for Vlad and just 4 yellow parts are holding it up. Shoot them with the MP5 only in one direction to make the structure fall. If you run out of ammo you can go to the door you entered from, you will see a open ammo chache but grab ammo at your own risk as you risk getting burned.

Even after that Vlad is still ok, however he has no where to hide, thus giving you a clear shot on him. You can use which ever weapon you like but the M4 Carbine and the Desert Eagle are most recommended. As Max said, to "give Vlad his gun back, one bullet at a time."

Ending

Once he's shot up enough, Vlad will rest his body on the spike, giving you some parting words before the scaffold collapses and he falls to his death.

On easier game modes, Max will then crawl back to Mona, who gives him her last words: God, I turned out to be such a damsel in distress! Before dying on the spot, as the police arrive on the scene.

On Dead on Arrival (the top difficulty level), Mona will survive the encounter.
