The sniper rifle loses power relative to the other weapons in Max Payne 2 since now all weapons can kill with a shot to the head. Ammo for the sniper rifle is also much rarer than in Max Payne 1, so it is generally reserved for long-range situations.

The sniper rifle is a much weaker weapon in Max Payne 2; it will often be unable to kill in one shot anywhere except the head, and Max will be forced to lead bullets more to compensate for travel time. The Sniper Rifle is the most accurate ranged weapon in the game. One well-aimed shot will take out any enemy in glorious slow-motion.

Usage

This is the standard issue sniper rifle you see in many games. Slow-ish rate of fire, but it really packs a punch. Many enemies can be taken out with one good shot, even to the torso. The advantage this gun holds over the Dragunov is the adjustable scope, for both your short and long-range sniping needs.

In Max Payne

In the first game, the Sniper Rifle is an extremely powerful weapon, killing most enemies in one shot (something which almost any other weapon is unable to do). It is the only weapon to not suffer from bullet lag, either. However, ammo for it is extremely rare and it should only be used in the rare cases where it is abundant. Max first finds it in _____, in a container area where it was supposed to be picked up by Rico Muerte.

In Max Payne 2

The sniper rifle is a much weaker weapon in Max Payne 2; it will often be unable to kill in one shot anywhere except the head, and Max will be forced to lead bullets more to compensate for travel time. Additionally, the sniper rifle loses power relative to the other weapons in Max Payne 2 since now all weapons can kill with a shot to the head. Finally, long-range situations are much rarer in Max Payne 2 than Max Payne 1, limiting the sniper rifle's innate usefulness as a long-range weapon. Ammo for the sniper rifle is also much rarer than in Max Payne 1, so it is generally reserved for long-range situations. Max first picks up the sniper rifle in No Us in This, where the commando sniper left it.

Trivia

  • The Sniper Rifle uses Sniper Ammo.
  • Although it is only referred to as the "Sniper Rifle" in the series, it appears to be modelled after the R700 sniper rifle.
  • Mona Sax never has access to this weapon. Instead, she wields the larger and arguably better Dragunov, a rifle which Max, in turn, never gets to use.
  • It holds 5 rounds in a magazine, with a maximum of 50 rounds.
