- "The SAF is the lightest two-handed weapon in the game, with a magazine that holds 30 9mm rounds. It's very similar to Max Payne 3's other SMG, the MPK. However the SAF .40 does slightly more damage, has a much faster rate of fire, and holds more ammo per magazine."

The SAF .40 is a submachine gun in Max Payne 3.
Overview[]
Designed in 1994, the SAF .40 is a submachine gun produced in Chile by FAMAE or Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército, a Chilean government small arms factory. The SMG is used by the Chilean armed forces and police, partially replacing the G-3 battle rifle.
The SAF.40 is a blowback-operated select-fire gun, firing from a closed bolt. The .40 S&W magazines are made with steel and can hold 30 rounds. In general, the design is a shortened Swiss manufactured SIG 540 rifle which was produced by license in Chile during the 1980s. The SIG 540's rotating bolt has been replaced with a simple blowback mechanism for utilization in the SAF .40.

Multiplayer[]
Despite being described as having long range accuracy, the SAF .40 has both lower accuracy and range than the MPK, the game's only other two-handed SMG. This may be due to the fact the unupgraded MPK starts with only 20 rounds, however it is nonetheless strange since the MPK beats the SAF.40 in almost all other statistics.
