Golden Guns is a feature in Max Payne 3. Each gun needs three pieces, which are scattered across each level of the story. When all three parts of a specific gun are collected, that gun becomes golden whenever picked up and can also be golden within multiplayer via weapon customization options.
Golden Guns turn ALL your weapons of that type golden, thus increasing damage of any gun by 10% or increasing the amount of ammunition in the magazine. The effect depends on the weapon.
Behind the scenes
- Other than Max Payne 3, three other games have featured golden guns, including Rockstar Games' own Red Dead Redemption and Deadline Games' Total Overdose. The standalone expansion for Grand Theft Auto IV, Ballad of Gay Tony, also allows its protagonist to wield a special gold submachine gun.
- However, in Total Overdose, the golden gun is only used in special loco moves and not collected in pieces. It can only be obtained after completing certain missions.
- Additionally, players who pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox 360 and PS3 were able to apply an exclusive gold tint to every gun in the game, alongside several others. Enhanced versions include the tints by default.
- Once all the golden parts are collected within the game, this enables the "Unlimited Ammo" cheat in Story Mode.
