Max Payne holding a golden M4 Super 90
Golden Guns is a feature in Max Payne 3. Each gun needs three pieces, which are scattered across each level of the story. When all three parts of a specific gun are collected, that gun becomes golden whenever picked up and can also be golden within multiplayer via weapon customization options.
Description[]
Finding all of a weapon's golden parts tints any and all instances of that weapon Max picks up gold, and either raises the gun's damage by 10% or increases the size of its magazine (sometimes with an accompanying visual change), the effect depending on the weapon.
The golden guns effect can be turned on or off at anytime via the options menu, but turning it off will also forfeit the stat bonuses.
Behind the scenes[]
- Other than Max Payne 3, two other of Rockstar's games have featured golden guns; Red Dead Redemption and Ballad of Gay Tony, a standalone expansion for Grand Theft Auto IV (which allows its protagonist to wield a special gold submachine gun).
- Additionally, players who pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox 360 and PS3 were able to apply an exclusive gold tint to every gun in the game, alongside several others. Enhanced versions include the tints by default.
- Once all the golden parts are collected within the game, this enables the "Unlimited Ammo" cheat in Story Mode.
