For the chapter in Max Payne, see The Baseball Bat.

The Baseball Bat is a weapon in Max Payne. It is the signature weapon of Frankie "The Bat" Niagara.

Characteristics[]

The Baseball Bat, normally a sports instrument, is used as a blunt melee weapon. The bat deals a decent amount of damage, and its rapid swing rate allows the user to keep an opponent in a stun-lock. Like the Lead Pipe, it swings twice in a single "fire" attack. The Baseball Bat is dangerous to use against groups of enemies, or ones with a strong close-range weapon. Nevertheless, it might work well around corners to launch a surprise attack. The weapon is more powerful than its alternative, as it has a longer reach and inflicts more damage.

The Punchinello Crime Family enforcer Frankie "The Bat" Niagara is known to use a Baseball Bat to torture his prisoners by brutally clubbing them. His fascination with using the bat most likely stems from the Captain BaseBallBat-Boy franchise, of which he is a big fan.

The bat is found three times throughout the game. The first is in the Payne Residence in the prologue of The American Dream. Afterwards, it is found twice in the basement of Lupino's Hotel, first in The Blood Veins of New York, and the again when Max escapes from Niagara's captivity in The Baseball Bat.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The bat shown in the graphic novels is the Karhu 513 Classic Original "pesäpallomaila", or "Finnish baseball bat". Pesäpallo is a national sport of Finland that is similar to American baseball and English cricket. The in-game model seems to reflect the same colors of this bat product as well with a natural wood handle & red-painted taper & barrel, but the dimensions were altered with the barrel of the bat made thicker, perhaps to look more like a normal American-style baseball bat.
