- "The .38 is the most effective pistol in close quarters and is capable of one-shot kills at point-blank range. Combine it with a long-range dual handed weapon for a very powerful loadout."
- ―Social Club description
The .38 Revolver is a handgun in Max Payne 3.
Overview[]
The .38 Revolver is a six-rounds grey-black American police revolver, with an average barrel size. Its design is one of the most famous in history and has been in use since the early 1900s, being widely used by both police and gangs.
It has much more stopping power than all other handguns but less range and accuracy than the 608 Bull or Desert Eagle, requiring its users to engage at short range to secure kills. In multiplayer, this issue can be partly rectified by attaching a barrel upgrade, but it will still fall short of other pistols in distance and accuracy by a considerable amount.
The .38 can be dual wielded with any other handgun that is seen in Max Payne's story in 2012.
In 2012, the .38 revolver is mostly used by Sao Paulo's gangs, such as the Comando Sombra, who use the revolver as one of their primary handguns and light weapons, alongside the PT92 and the Micro 9mm. Raul Passos uses one as his sidearm during his meeting with Max Payne in Hoboken.

Behind the Scenes[]
- The .38 Revolver resembles a swing-out Smith & Wesson revolver, more specifically the Model 20.
- The Model 20 chambers the .38/44 cartridge; a version of the .38 Special round loaded to higher pressures before the invention of the .357 Magnum round.
- This is evident by the larger-sized frame and barrel features.
- Two .38 revolvers appear on the logo of the UFE unit.
- In Chapter 4, a DeMarco goon can be seen holding a .38 in a cutscene after leaving Walton's Bar. However, he wields a 1911 in actual gameplay.
- The .38 Revolver in the Social Club and grind icon features a completely different S&W revolver, which instead resembes the Victory Model identifiable by its barrel, grips, and lanyard ring (latter most visible on Social Club model).
